{"id":306,"date":"2020-03-15T13:38:47","date_gmt":"2020-03-15T13:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/?p=306"},"modified":"2020-03-15T13:41:00","modified_gmt":"2020-03-15T13:41:00","slug":"rear-front-lateral-link-aka-rear-toe-arm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/index.php\/2020\/03\/15\/rear-front-lateral-link-aka-rear-toe-arm\/","title":{"rendered":"Rear Front Lateral Link aka Rear Toe Arm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rear toe on the WRX STi (VA) chassis is said to be far to negative.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Removal and install is pretty straight forward.\u00a0 You will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ball join separator<\/li>\n<li>22mm box end wrench<\/li>\n<li>19mm socket (1\/2 preferred)<\/li>\n<li>17mm socket<\/li>\n<li>19mm box end wrench<\/li>\n<li>Pliers for hitch cotter pin removal<\/li>\n<li>12mm socket for cable assembly nut removal<\/li>\n<li>1\/2&#8243; socket wrench<\/li>\n<li>3\/8&#8243; socket wrench<\/li>\n<li>torque wrench<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Torque Spec<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>81 ft-lbs both ends (if you are strong willed enough)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Removal<\/h4>\n<p>Procedure, using the manual excerpts below, mark where the lobed, inboard bolt is.\u00a0 Note that this bolt has a split seam and has a special washer behind the 19mm nut.\u00a0 Once the nut is loosened and removed, remove this special washer by hand else the bolt will not want to come out.\u00a0 BE GENTLE.\u00a0 The lobed nut should be pressed out by hand\u00a0 While you are there, remove the 12mm nut holding the brake cable to the arm.<\/p>\n<p>Next, remove the hitch cotter pin and remove the 17mm nut.\u00a0 Use the ball join separator to pop the arm from the housing assembly. Remove the arm.<\/p>\n<h4>Installation<\/h4>\n<p>I preferred placing the threaded portion of the arm into the housing assembly and barely put on the securing nut.\u00a0 Then I pressed the other end into the inboard subframe and began putting the lobe nut back into place, followed by the special washer and 19mm nut.\u00a0 Line things up and begin to tighten but not to torque.\u00a0 Keep the bolt from turning since it is lobed and will move things out of alignment, though, you are going to need an alignment.\u00a0 While you are there, if your toe arm has an allocation for the parking cable, reaffix the parking cable with the 12mm nut.<\/p>\n<p>Finish tightening both ends of the arm finally bring them to the proper torque.\u00a0 Read the directions from the manual excerpt!\u00a0 Final torque should be applied when all four tires are on the ground and at load.\u00a0 Torque specification is 81ft-lbs however, that seems to be too much as I felt that the bolts were going to shear.\u00a0 76ft-lbs with the +\/- range of the torque wrench used, may be sufficient.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-309\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sti_Manual_RS21_FrntLateralLink_1-674x800.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"674\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sti_Manual_RS21_FrntLateralLink_1-674x800.png 674w, https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sti_Manual_RS21_FrntLateralLink_1.png 717w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 674px) 100vw, 674px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-308\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.dieselhaus.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/Sti_Manual_RS22_FrntLateralLink_2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"729\" height=\"688\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rear toe on the WRX STi (VA) chassis is said to be far to negative. &nbsp; Removal and install is pretty straight forward.\u00a0 You will need: Ball join separator 22mm box end wrench 19mm socket (1\/2 preferred) 17mm socket 19mm box end wrench Pliers for hitch cotter pin removal 12mm socket for cable assembly nut&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":268,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[2],"tags":[4,24,39],"class_list":["post-306","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-auto","tag-sti","tag-subaru","tag-suspension"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
